The V-Day Dinner "Experience"

"The Melting Pot"

Being ardent chocolate fondue fans, Hubby and I were really excited about our V-Dinner - but an entire Fondue meal or as they call it a "Fondue Experience" was actually something I was always skeptical about. Nevertheless, this V-Day we thought of spending 3 hours at a restaurant for this meal extravaganza.

To begin with, if you are ever venturing out on V-Day at the Melting Pot, my tip to all would be to get a reservation couple of days ahead as this place really gets booked way in advance.
We just had a single slot open and so we lapped it up.

The receptionist informed us in advance that they would be offering a 4 course V-Day special menu only, and not the regulars. The former was something I really appreciated, because we got to know the Pocket Pinch and what exactly we were in for!!! So we headed off to The Melting Pot with open hearts and empty growling stomachs (4 courses now!!!).

The novelty of this restaurant is that “you” get to cook your meal in a pot right in front, on an electric stove top surface (not too child friendly really). However, perfect for Date Night or a Night Out with Friends.

We started off with the first course - "Cheese Fondue"- ours had infused beer with 2 kinds of cheese, Delish!!! Molten cheese and to dip in some warm bread, green apples, raw veggies (didn’t care for those much though). We really liked this course; however, if one's not too fond of beer or its slightly bitter taste, this could be a tad too strong.

Next came the salad - We chose the House Salad - well that's a simple lettuce, egg salad with vinaigrette and ranch done the right way. Unbelievably tasty & refreshing!!!

With two courses down and two more to come, we already felt full and wanted to go out on a stroll before plunging into the entree. For the Entree we had an assortment of raw meats (lobster tail, shrimps, filet mignon, chicken, beef and pork), to be cooked in a broth (coq au vin - has burgundy wine) and different sauces to go with the meat kinds. I thought this portion of the meal was exceptional, especially if you like your sea food. However, the downside to it is that you end up paying for your dinner and cooking it too. :-) Also, a time-check of 2 minutes to cook the meats was a little distracting if you are having an interesting conversation; so to speak!

And finally, the most amazing part of the meal – desserts! - Chocolate fondue with some fun dippers (strawberries, krispie treats, red velvet cake bits, brownie bites, Oreo crusted marshmallows) with all its goodness and a champagne toast sets the stage for a grand finale. Just divine!

So the Verdict: The 4 course was a little too much, and I would be really happy with the Cheese and Chocolate courses on any given day. It's a little too pricey (ours was $ 100+). However, if you are in the company of good friends or that special someone, and would like to make it a night-to-remember and not just-another-dine-in, this could make an evening Very-Very-Special!!!
